Folks – I have counted on people like you to fuel my campaign in this incredibly important battleground race, and it’s thanks to your support that we’ve made it this far. I hope I can continue to count on your support through Election Day – if you can, please chip in a weekly gift of $3 now. But today, I am reaching out to you, John, to tell you a little about my first supporters: my wonderful parents.

I count myself incredibly lucky to have had parents like Peggy and Bob Wood. On top of being kind, generous, and loving parents, both were incredible role models who showed me and my siblings what living a life of purpose looks like.

I was named after my mom, Margaret “Peggy” Wood. And her name was not the only thing she passed down to me. Throughout her life, she made it a point to get involved in the issues that mattered to her. She knocked doors for candidates she cared about, donated when she could, and even served on the state board of the local Planned Parenthood.

Her work on behalf of women is something that I carry with me to this day and serves as a constant reminder of how hard women fought to secure their fundamental freedoms (and why we can’t go back).

My father, Bob, also fought – more literally – for what he believed in. Having fought against tyranny abroad in WWII, he was passionate about instilling the importance of freedom in his children.

I see my life in public service as an answer to the breakfast table question he used to ask me and my siblings: “what are you doing for freedom today?” He knew that even in the world’s greatest democracy, the fight for freedom was a daily one. And that continues to be true. It’s something that I take extremely seriously – and that feels especially urgent as I face election-denier Don Bolduc in one of the toughest races of my life.

But I’ve never been one to run from a challenge. Not when the stakes are this high and when my values are on the line – it’s just not how I was raised. That’s why I’m here, right now, asking for your support, John.

Whether it was my mom’s work for Planned Parenthood or my dad’s military service, I’m incredibly grateful for my parent’s example and their support (you might have even received an email from my lovely, and very enthusiastic, mother asking you to pitch in to my campaign).

Taking up their mantle is no small task – and I certainly don’t take it lightly – but I’ve never been alone in living my values. I’ve always served with an incredible team by my side, and this campaign is no different. So please, chip in $3, join this team, and help us win.
