Hi John,
Big news just in: Spain is pulling out of the Energy Charter Treaty, the toxic trade deal that lets fossil fuel companies block climate action.
It has admitted that modernisation proposals have brought “no improvements” to the ECT’s dangerous protection of fossil fuel projects. Only last week the Polish parliament also voted to leave the ECT.
More and more European countries are saying no to the ECT’s greenwashing, with increasing pressure to refuse the weak modernisation proposals on the table at a ratification conference in November. Governments must seize this last chance to withdraw collectively and disarm fossil fuel companies for good.
We can join in the chorus of voices against this dangerous treaty. More than 50,000 of us are telling the UK government to exit the ECT as well. Can you add your name now?

The fightback is gaining ground across the continent. Activists are calling on their governments to vote down the ECT at a crucial EU Council vote, while five young victims of the climate crisis have launched a legal action against it at Europe’s top human rights court.
Young climate leaders like Greta Thunberg are speaking out on the need to take away fossil fuel companies’ most powerful weapon - help her spread the word on Exiting the ECT now!
