Last night, a group of physicians, nurses, and healthcare attorneys met to support Kris Mayes for Attorney General. These providers voiced their extreme concern towards the detriment of care for their patients, and lack of guidance they face under Arizona’s dueling abortion bans.
The discussions were in-depth and heartbreaking. We heard from OB’s and nurses whose patients are suffering under the abortion ban, with one having a patient leave the state to seek care when her anatomy scan showed a fetal anomaly. Healthcare workers are scared of a future they face if caring for their patients might land them in jail, and are worried about the increase in harm to people who won’t receive the reproductive healthcare they deserve.
The one thing to remember is that abortion is healthcare. And abortion care also includes IVF, ectopic pregnancies, miscarriages, and access to medications that aid in a variety of other medical issues people have. Abortion is on the ballot - vote for candidates like Kris Mayes, Katie Hobbs, Julie Gunnigle, Adrian Fontes, and your legislative candidates that will support privacy rights and abortion in our state.
