Recognizing Outstanding Volunteers
I would like to take this space to recognize some true blue Democrats. And take this as a reminder we are all Democrats and show that through our votes and our actions. We don't have to be an elected official to show our blue heart.
Jamie Sarche (she/her): Jamie jumped into texting above and beyond the call of duty last week and this week, including dealing with a major glitch. She ensured that inactive voters did not fall through the cracks of voter contact, and helped dozens of inactive Dems reactivate their registrations, while also helping confirm who no longer lived in Colorado.
Nick Jones (they/them): showed up to the office three times to ensure our new firewall & wifi were properly set up. Nick is my oldest friend in Colorado, and I am so grateful for his friendship, and this week, his IT background.
Karen Tonso & Caitlin Hungate (both she/her): the Postcard Queens of Jefferson County, they organized the successful completion of over 93,000 postcards for candidates in JeffCo and one in Adams. While Caitlin will carry on, Karen--who was already retired--has now retired from campaign postcard organizing. Anyone wanting to organize postcard writers in their county or regionally would benefit from her experience and should buy her a beer - actually that's a good idea even if you're not organizing postcard campaigns.
There are still plenty of opportunities to help out. SIGN UP HERE [[link removed]]

Celebrating National Coming Out Day
The first National Coming Out Day was celebrated on October 11, 1988 as a day for LGBTQIA+ persons to share with those they love a piece of their lives that had been hidden and not spoken about. The foundational belief is that homophobia thrives in an atmosphere of silence and ignorance, and that once people know that they have loved ones who are LGBTQIA+, they are far less likely to maintain homophobic or oppressive views.
My name is Jarrod Munger. During the day, I work remotely at my home in Fort Morgan in IT Security for DaVita Kidney Care. When I'm not working, spending time with my partner Kirk, or tending to my egg farm, I am the Chair of the Stonewall Democrats of Colorado, Chair of the Morgan County Democrats, and Assistant Secretary for the Colorado Democratic Party. I came out to my friends and most of my family in the late 90s when I was 16, between my sophomore and junior year of high school. Being from a small town in western Nebraska, this was not the easiest environment to come out but I learned from two very strong women, my mother and grandmother, that being true to myself was how I would be happy in life. I was fortunate to have a loving home environment that allowed me to be me.
Unfortunately, that is not the case for many teenagers who come out today. 40% of teenage suicides in the USA are LGBTQIA+ youth who have been rejected by their families. There are resources, however, that can make a real difference – The Trevor Project [[link removed]] is the world's largest suicide prevention and mental health organization for LGBTQIA+ youth, and trained counselors can be reached at 866-488-7386.
