Hello Friend,
Welcome to my e-newsletter, the Ready Room. As a retired Naval Aviator, the Ready Room is special to me because it’s where fellow aviators meet to brief and debrief missions. This is my weekly briefing to you on my mission in Congress. Please follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for regular updates on how my team and I are working to serve you in Congress.
Improving Grant Access for Smaller Communities
Small communities with less resources face obstacles when applying for federal grants. The grant process is complex, time consuming, and expensive. Larger cities with bigger budgets can hire grant writers and lobbyists to apply for federal grants, giving them an advantage in the process. That’s why I introduced the Simplifying Grants Act, which will simplify the process for smaller cities to obtain federal grants. It will put rural communities on a more level playing field and streamline the grant process for disaster relief as our community recovers from Hurricane Ian. Helping our Neighbors in DeSoto County
Operation Blue Roof is a federal program that provides temporary roofs to those impacted by major storms like Hurricane Ian. While counties like Charlotte and Lee were deemed eligible for this program, our neighbors in DeSoto County who suffered significant wind damage were not. Rep. Greg Steube and I pushed the Army Corps to add DeSoto County to the list. I am happy to report DeSoto was added shortly after the Corps received our letter.
