Dear friend,
I hope you are doing well and staying healthy! These past few weeks I have been in the district as well as introducing and voting on legislation in D.C. See what I’ve been up to in this newsletter!
I joined clean energy advocates in Milwaukee and local leaders to highlight how this legislation will deploy much needed resources to vulnerable neighborhoods while creating good-paying jobs. We talked about how the Inflation Reduction Act will help fight climate change to reach those who will be impacted the most.
I celebrated Tosa Fest, which is always a great opportunity to meet with constituents and small business owners, not to mention the amazing food!
It was great to return to an in-person celebration of Mexican Independence Day Festival in Milwaukee. I am so proud to represent such a diverse district and recognize the contributions Hispanic Americans make to communities in Milwaukee every day.
I had a wonderful time at the Rohingya American Society Community event in Milwaukee; it was a great opportunity to speak with my constituents.
Back in D.C., we had Milwaukee Night. I got to meet with local leaders, students, County Executive Crowley and Mayor Cavalier Johnson. It’s always great to get a bit of Milwaukee out here in D.C.
In Congress, I have been hard at work including supporting legislation in September to keep the federal government operating and to prevent a harmful shutdown, to fight food insecurity among our veterans, and to improve access to mental health care which includes provisions from my bill to help hire more school social workers, and more.
I also introduced the No Surprises for Survivors Act with Rep. Linda Sanchez and Rep. Carol Miller, to ensure sexual assault survivors with private insurance don’t receive an unexpected medical bill for a forensic exam and cosponsored another bill with Rep. Schweikert to help improve enforcement of federal mental health parity requirements that help reduce barriers to care for those in need. Both of these bipartisan bills were approved by the House Ways and Means Committee in September, and I look forward to them both passing the full House soon.
I want to remind you that getting a COVID-19 booster vaccine and a flu shot are of the utmost importance to protect yourself as we move into the winter. I got my vaccines, and I sure am glad to know I am protected from severe disease. Vaccines remain the best way to protect yourself.
