John – I’ve noticed a trend in recent days, I wonder if you see it, too.

 

In our recent debate, my opponent balked when I pointed out the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates the Trump Tax Cuts, which he STILL defends, will add at least $1.9 trillion to the federal deficit over 10 years.

 

Crapo made it clear that he thinks the CBO estimate on the heavy cost of Trump’s tax breaks for the super rich is just plain wrong, but that doesn’t stop him from citing the CBO whenever their work supports his agenda.

 

It seems to me that Mike Crapo is comfortable with people who tell him what he wants to hear. But we don’t need a senator who surrounds themselves with “yes men.”

 

Idaho deserves a senator who will truly listen to experts – including communities that stand to be impacted by the laws we pass.

This “yes man” streak goes both ways for a lot of Republicans in Washington. How many terrible policies has Mike Crapo supported just because he didn’t have the courage to say no to Mitch McConnell or Donald Trump? Or because he refused to listen to facts?

 

I believe leaders need to listen, take all the facts into consideration, and make the best possible judgment based on all the available information. That includes having the humility to hear people who disagree with you and taking their perspectives into account.

 

This is my pledge to you: I will be a senator for ALL of Idaho, not just the people who agree with me.
