Red Flag Warning Extended for Southwest Minnesota
The National Weather Service has extended the Red Flag Warning for several counties in Southwest Minnesota due to extreme fire risk conditions.
Affected counties include:
Cottonwood, Jackson, Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone and Rock
A Red Flag Warning means the area is experiencing weather conditions that are ideal for wildfire, including strong winds and minimal humidity levels. Residents should not burn in those counties where a Red Flag Warning is in effect and should check any recent burning to ensure the fire is completely out.
The Red Flag Warning is in effect today through 7:00 p.m. Thursday.
Additionally, a Fire Weather Watch has been issued for the following counties: Brown, Lac Qui Parle, Martin, Redwood, Watonwan, and Yellow Medicine. This alert means critical fire weather conditions, including gusty winds and low humidity, are forecast to occur. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is discouraged. Please stay tuned to possible forecast and alert updates, including Red Flag Warnings.
