As you know, I’ve always stood by our veterans. Choosing to put your life and body on the line for our nation is one of the bravest and most honorable things an American can do.

That’s why throughout this campaign, I’ve made it a priority of mine to listen to our veterans on the issues that matter to them – and at a roundtable I held with former service members last week, they made it quite clear what they think of Derrick Van Orden.

Like me, many veterans were appalled by my opponent’s participation in the January 6 attack on our nation’s Capitol. Our armed forces dedicate their lives to defend our democracy and our way of life, but extremists like Van Orden seek to undermine that very democracy he himself swore to protect when he served as a Navy Seal.

Van Orden’s participation in the January 6 insurrection was extremely unpatriotic; plain and simple. We cannot allow someone like that to represent the Third District in Congress where he will continue to disrespect our veterans and our nation. That’s why I’m running, team.
