You may know that I’m the ONLY Black woman representing New York right now, but we can change that by electing Jackie Gordon!
Let me tell you about my friend Jackie Gordon.
Jackie was born in Jamaica and grew up here in New York after immigrating when she was just seven years old.
She enlisted in the Army reserve where she excelled, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. There, she also served as an NYSUT member and educator, mentoring hundreds of young people.
In 2007, she became the first Black woman elected to the Babylon Town Council. There, she lowered the cost of living and fought for essential resources for veterans and military families.
NOW, Jackie is running for Congress in New York’s 2nd district. If she wins, I will no longer be the ONLY Black woman representing New York in Congress – and that is a very lonely position given how diverse our great state is.
I would so deeply appreciate having a sister like Jackie Gordon standing next to me in Congress to represent our great state and to join our Caribbean caucus supporting immigrants.
I know Jackie has the experience and values necessary to lead, but Republicans are fighting hard to keep this seat red. Jackie needs our support in the final few weeks of the election cycle!
