No doubt about it, our campaign sends a good number of fundraising emails. So I thought it was important to ask for a moment of your time to explain why these messages, especially before this critical FEC deadline, are so important to our campaign and our chances to defeat Susan Collins.

Here is the truth:

This campaign will not be easy. We are not just taking on Susan Collins in this race. She has Donald Trump behind her and the full force of Mitch McConnell's political operation, as well. She has stood with them and they are eager to return the favor.

That means she is going to raise extraordinary sums of money, mostly from large contributions from the wealthy and well-connected.

Our campaign raises money differently. For us, the overwhelming majority of donations we receive come from people like you giving small amounts -- most coming in response to emails like this one. I am very proud of that fact, and you should be too.

And when this deadline ends, we're going to report our numbers and make that difference clear. But that means we have to ask:

Can I count on you to make a $3 contribution to our campaign before our final FEC fundraising deadline of the year comes to a close? I would not ask if it were not so important.
