Yesterday Rep. Jamie Raskin joined us for People For’s very first Book Club event, where we discussed his recent book, Unthinkable: Trauma, Truth, and the Trials of American Democracy. Despite some minor technical difficulties, the conversation was just as moving and informing as we anticipated – the emotional reflection of losing his son to suicide and just a week later facing insurrectionists as they stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
Each of these events is incredibly overwhelming and emotional to experience individually, let alone together. Rep. Raskin’s stirring words about his personal tragedies and the dire warnings about the threats facing our country are not to be missed.

Our next author in the Book Club series is Elie Mystal: senior fellow at People For, justice correspondent for The Nation and MSNBC legal contributor who will join us on Tuesday, November 1 at 4:00 PM ET (1:00 PM PT).
Elie’s book Allow Me to Retort: A Black Guy’s Guide to the Constitution offers readers insight into the rights enshrined in our Constitution and explains the way the Far Right is seeking to undermine those rights – and how progressives can begin fighting back.
Through his trademark humor and sharp wit, we expect the Book Club event to be just as informative and inspiring as his book while Elie hones in on some of the threats facing our nation from the Far Right.
