John,

What’s the most powerful demonstration you’ve ever been to? What made it powerful? How many people were there, what were they doing, did you feel unified with them?

I’m Sunrise’s mobilizations director, and these are the kinds of questions that keep me up at night.

My favorite thing about Sunrise is the big, beautiful, courageous actions we’re known for. Our attention-grabbing strikes and sit-ins are what have allowed us to put our movement’s concerns into the national spotlight.

Can you chip in monthly to help us keep planning bigger and bolder demonstrations next year as we work toward winning a Green New Deal?

Or, make a one-time contribution here.

We’re already building plans for major actions at two key moments next year: the fiftieth anniversary of Earth Day in April, and the crucial moment of new possibility right after the 2020 elections.

These moments are many months out--but we’re already preparing for them because making a powerful action takes a ton of work. Before we show up on the day-of, we first need to: plan our exact strategy, train action leaders across the country, purchase permits and insurance, talk to lawyers, rent audio equipment, buy ads to get the word out, paint posters and banners, find speakers and musicians, ensure everyone’s safety....you get the picture.

And all this takes not just time and energy, but also resources and funding.

So if you’ve ever been inspired by a Sunrise action, please help us keep planning them next year by becoming a monthly sustainer to our movement here.

Or if you can’t go monthly yet, make a one-time gift here.

At Sunrise, we know that electing leaders aligned with our values is hugely important -- and that it’s only half the battle. We also need to show up in the streets to relentlessly demand the change we need.

If we take back the White House and the Senate but our movement fades away after the election, we will have lost a core part of our movement: the knowledge that change comes from the bottom up, from the people.

Become a recurring donor here so that we can mobilize millions of people for the Green New Deal next year.

See you in the streets,

Deirdre Shelley
