With all the daily news coverage about the ups and downs of politics — which candidate leads in the polls, which candidate just tweeted something controversial, etc. — it’s easy to lose sight of what campaigns are really about.

So I wanted to take a minute to talk about what’s at stake in this race, because this election matters a whole lot.

It matters whether or not we defeat an anti-abortion Republican in this district and prevent election deniers from taking control of Congress.

It matters whether or not we have enough votes in the House to fight climate change, defend voting rights, and codify the right to choose.

It matters whether or not we help the regular families who are struggling amid rising costs — and take real action to make health care, housing, and child care more affordable.

Folks, if I have the honor of representing Colorado’s 7th District in Congress, I promise you this: I will work my heart out to help out the regular families who are struggling right now, defend the civil rights that Republicans are attacking, and stop gun violence from claiming more innocent lives.
