John,
With less than a month until Election Day, I’m proud to announce my new endorsements of candidates rooted in their community—beginning with LaTrice McClendon, who is running for the Detroit Public Schools Community District School Board.
Our Rooted in Community Leadership PAC supports candidates like LaTrice, who is running to be on the school board for Detroit Public Schools. Currently, there are no school board members who have children in the school system. LaTrice would be a member with two young kids in the district.
She told our team: “As a parent, I don’t have 10 years to wait for our schools to improve. It’s my goal to drive urgency and bring accountability to what is happening in our school district today.” I feel the same about my role in public office. We need elected leaders with the necessary lived experience who will act with the urgency the moment demands.
LaTrice and I both come from Detroit’s public schools, which have been devalued and underfunded.
That’s why we need a community leader like LaTrice, who led the effort to secure funding for a state of the art STEM lab in one of our public elementary schools, and who has been instrumental in delivering over $1 million in scholarships to Detroit students who need financial support as they pursue higher education.
Please donate now to support LaTrice for School Board and the Rooted in Community Leadership PAC, which invests in progressive candidates like LaTrice.

It’s especially crucial to support LGBTQ+ allies like LaTrice in our public schools, as right-wing homophobic campaigns are on the rise—including banning books in schools.
In my new district, the same people who pushed for a Muslim Ban during Trump’s administration are pushing to ban multiple books with LGBTQ+ themes in Dearborn’s majority-Arab schools.
To counter the rise of fascist tactics around the country, we’ve got to keep building progressive power up and down the ballot—from local to state to federal races.
Will you pitch in today to LaTrice McClendon’s campaign for Detroit’s school board and to our Rooted in Community Leadership PAC, so we can keep supporting LaTrice and other progressive candidates?
Thank you so much,
Rashida
