Brown Gal Can't Swim campaign aims to get South Asian women into swimming

Nottingham-born Summaya Mughal (pictured left), a BBC presenter and podcaster for BBC Radio Sounds and Radio Leicester has been learning to swim at Active Nottingham pools in a bid to encourage other South Asian women to take the plunge.

Active Nottingham is proud to have supported Summaya on her journey and is excited to share her five-part podcast series which explores why many South Asian women are less likely to swim.

As a result of her Brown Gal Can't Swim campaign, Summaya was recently honoured at the Nottingham Awards 2022 for her work in the Voluntary and Community Sector.

The Brown Gal Can't Swim series see Summaya learn to swim in just eight weeks at Active Nottingham swimming pools, supported by Nottingham Swim School swim teacher, Victoria. Olympians Rebecca Adlington and Alice Dearing (pictured right) also provide support and guidance and set Summaya additional challenges including a 500m open water swim - will she do it? You'll have to listen to the podcast to find out!
