If there is one way to describe my mom, it’s that she is a problem solver. Whether it was with homework, helping me find the right school, or supporting me through all the up, downs, and in-betweens, she was always there for me.

But what makes my mom different is that when I was bullied in school she went above and beyond. 

When I was in school, everyone knew bullying was a big problem, but no one wanted to talk about it. Or at least not until my mom found out about what was going on in my childhood school system. 

Not only did she talk about the issue of bullying, but she helped build an anti-bullying system for northern Illinois and worked with hundreds of school districts to help drive bullying solutions that bring parents and schools together. 

And she didn’t stop there. Most parents will be there to console their child when they are bullied, only Marie Newman would write a book and start a national nonprofit program to address bullying nationwide.
