Dear John,
Did you know that Arizona has some of the strictest voter ID laws in the country? It’s why my job as the VoteRiders Arizona Voter ID Coalition Coordinator is so challenging and so necessary.
Every Arizona voter is required to present either photo identification or two forms of non-photo identification at the polls. From my vantage point on the ground in Phoenix, I see the ways this law causes confusion and depresses turnout — for example, some tribal IDs are not sufficient and require a second form of ID.
That’s a big deal in a state with such a large Indigenous population. In the Phoenix area alone there are more than 200,000 Indigenous eligible voters, and each person needs to know what IDs they can use to vote successfully. |
