The Federal Working Group is on recess until after the November election. Like all of you, we plan to focus on filling out our ballots and getting out the vote for the next few weeks, so our meeting for Thursday, October 13, is canceled. Our next meeting will take place Thursday, November 10, 2022.
** All eyes on the Select Committee
------------------------------------------------------------
TOMORROW! The Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the US Capitol returns with a new hearing at 10 AM our time, to tell more of the story of Trump and the MAGA Republicans' attempt to overrule the will of the people. #WatchForYourself on the Committee's official YouTube channel ([link removed]) or on KQED.
** It’s time to vote!
------------------------------------------------------------
Ballots for the October–November 2022 general election are on their way. You may have already received yours in the mail. (And if not, you may want to check your voter registration right now at the City’s Voter Portal ([link removed]) . There’s still time to register ([link removed]) if you need to.)
Once you have your ballot, it’s time to start filling it out. We have step-by-step instructions ([link removed]) , including a checklist, and an explainer on the state and City propositions ([link removed]) . We’re also continuing to update our Vote ([link removed]) page as new voter guides come out.
We encourage you to start as soon as you can. That way, you can take your time filling out your ballot. You've got plenty of time to complete it and turn it in well before the November deadline.
We aren’t the only ones voting. Early voting is underway all over the country, so if you want to volunteer to help get out the vote, there are plenty of opportunities to help build another, bigger Blue Wave and pave the way for even bigger gains in the next term. That includes our own Pints and Postcards every Sunday in October, plus other voter outreach events around the Bay Area and over Zoom. See below and our Vote page ([link removed]) for volunteer events.
** CleanPowerSF: Help us achieve 100 percent renewable power
------------------------------------------------------------
CleanPowerSF ([link removed]) , a program of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC ([link removed]) ), is in the process of updating its roadmap ([link removed]) for achieving 100 percent renewable electricity by 2025. Preliminary results of the program are available here ([link removed]) .
CleanPowerSF is inviting community members and customers to provide written comment ([link removed]) on options for how the program can source clean power for the community while keeping rates affordable and helping San Francisco achieve its renewable energy goals.
Don’t wait too long! The deadline is this Friday, October 14.
** Student loan relief: Act now, before it’s too late
------------------------------------------------------------
The Biden Administration is delivering student loan relief on multiple fronts.
* If you’ve been working for schools, the government, or non-profits, you may be eligible for expanded Public Service Loan Forgiveness. Apply by the end of this month before expanded eligibility runs out.
* The Department of Education is working on a new income-driven repayment plan that won’t increase your balance as long as you make your minimum payments.
* Borrowers who got fleeced by certain for-profit schools will be able to apply to have entire loans canceled.
* And, oh yeah, there’s that $10,000 or $20,000 of one-time forgiveness.
The biggest catch: There are deadlines. Some of these are available now but closing soon; others are still in the works.
Our blog post lays out in simple terms what you can do to get all the student loan relief you’re eligible for, and the deadlines for applying for it. Read our explainer here ([link removed]) .
