Speak out for a just Farm Bill

TAKE ACTION [link removed]

Dear John,

Right now, Congress is working on the 2023 Farm Bill—and every one of us has a stake in how it turns out.

The Farm Bill is authorized by Congress every five years and includes nearly $1 trillion in spending. It sets policy for U.S. agriculture, nutrition, and conservation programs. It determines what food is grown, how it’s grown, and how affordable it is. It also funds the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and other vital programs that help tens of millions of people put food on the table every day.

Today, the Farm Bill is also crucial in responding to the climate crisis. The U.S. agricultural industry is one the main drivers of climate change. At the same time, climate change threatens food production and exacerbates food insecurity. Congress is in the process of drafting this legislation. That’s why they must hear from us now.

Tell elected officials: We want a Farm Bill that prioritizes ending hunger and addressing climate change! [link removed]

Elected officials must seize this opportunity to transform our food system for the better. We urge Congress to support a Farm Bill that:

Strengthens SNAP and other programs that prevent hunger and malnutrition. That includes expanding program eligibility and benefits to more people.

Promotes climate justice and the sustainable use of natural resources. We need more funding for sustainable agriculture practices—and to disincentive the use of fossil fuels and chemical fertilizers.

Invests in local, sustainable economies. We need more investment in urban agriculture and other local food systems—and protections for all who help grow our food.

Tell Congress: Prioritize ending hunger and addressing climate change in the next Farm Bill! [link removed]
