Dear John,

PLEASE HELP US ‘TAKE PM GLOBAL’

The impacts of our human population, which has more than doubled over my
lifetime, affect us all. Population is a global issue that applies both in
rich countries where per capita consumption drives climate change and
devours global resources, and in poorer, less developed countries where
high birth rates trap people in poverty and can devastate the local
environment. Addressing those impacts benefits us all - not least future
generations and their ability to live well alongside and sustained by the
wealth of nature that our one planet still holds.

That’s why our strategic plan sets down the ambition ‘TO TAKE PM GLOBAL
OVER THE NEXT 3-5 YEARS’. We have to be operating globally, in
partnership with other like-minded bodies and individuals, to influence
international policy and action on population, as well as to empower
individuals to make the informed, responsible choice to have smaller
families.

OUR WORK OVER THE PAST YEAR HAS LAID THE FOUNDATIONS FOR THIS STEP-CHANGE
IN OUR ACTIVITY AND PRESENCE GLOBALLY:

• World Population Day events held simultaneously in New York, London and
Lagos established strong links with colleagues in Africa and set out our
demands for action at international level to tackle population.

• PM’s 2019 Conference, ‘The Last Elephant in the Room’ drew on an
international panel of biodiversity experts and led to positive approaches
for PM to build its presence outside the UK.

• We have obtained media coverage in more than 20 countries, from Uganda
to New Zealand, and Vietnam to Mexico.

Building on these strong foundations requires smart, strategic effort.
Adding to the gathering body of science supporting our agenda, Population
Matters will commission vital, original research establishing that we have
the time and means to slow population growth and achieve a stable human
population in harmony with nature and the ecosystems our wellbeing depends
upon.

PLEASE HELP US ACHIEVE THIS STEP-CHANGE IN PM’S AMBITION, PRESENCE AND
EFFECTIVENESS:

£10 will help us develop our online outreach to audiences across the
world.

£20 will enable us to fund the feasibility study for establishing PM’s
presence with key partners outside the UK.

£50 will support our lobbying efforts at the UK and UN for an
international policy framework on population.

£100 will provide core funding to commission that pivotal, agenda-setting
research mapping out the path, policies and means for achieving a lower,
sustainable global population.

Population Matters depends on the foresight and generosity of people like
you, to advance our message and support the work which too few other
organisations are willing to do. Please show your support again today.
