It takes faith to believe that what we plant will give birth to anything—from the physical to the spiritual world. As followers of Christ we cling to what faith we have, rightly asking for more to believe that our actions big or small will have impact for the kingdom. Our human tendency is to only invest if we can be guaranteed the opportunity to see our investment succeed. Additionally, we tend to think that small efforts don’t yield big results, but that is not the upside down kingdom of Jesus.
“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches. The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.” (Matthew 13:31-35)
