------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Resident,

It’s that time of year that people either love or hate! With Halloween fast approaching, I now have the ever popular ‘No Trick or Treat Here’ cards available from my Community Office in Ilkeston. I have also placed them in our two town halls and alternatively you can email my office at [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) or phone 0115 930 0521 and my Team will pop one in the post for you.

The provision of bus services and the routes the buses take throughout Erewash are always a cause for concern. The most recent issue is the stopping of the Number 21 Trentbarton service which served the north of Ilkeston, Kirk Hallam, the town centre, and Hallam Fields with the destination of Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham. This was an important service for patients and hospital staff alike and is why I have set up a petition to reinstate this service. Petition sheets are available in my office should you wish to sign it or help collect more signatures. It is also available on-line at: [link removed] ([link removed])

I held the Erewash Jobs and Community Fair at the end of September which was well attended by job seekers and local businesses looking for new members of staff. If you are looking for a job or training opportunity, I have posted information about the businesses and other organisations that attended on my website, just take a look at: [link removed]

Last Monday I had one of my regular meetings with the Police Inspector for Erewash and members of his team. I expressed my deep concerns about the extreme unease the presence of groups of people who congregate on Ilkeston Market Place is having on our community. I raised other issues such as motorbikes being ridden inappropriately through parks and along the canal towpath, as well as concerns about the misuse of drugs in parks and other open spaces across Erewash. The Government has allocated over £400,000.00 to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour across Erewash which will be invested in a range of measures to tackle the issues of most importance to our community. Please remember, if you are a victim of or witness crime or anti-social behaviour, please do report it to the police – they can only act if they have information. And of course, please do not hesitate to call 999 if you are ever at risk.

I am sure many of you who are eligible have already taken up the offer of a free flu and COVID-19 jab either at your GP practice, a community pharmacy of a vaccination hub. Those who are aged 65 and over or have a qualifying underlying health condition or are a health and care worker should have already been invited to get your jabs. The booking system for the 50–64-year-olds will be opening over the next few days. COVID-19 hasn’t gone away, and numbers are rising again, along with patients being hospitalised. Flu hasn’t been very prevalent over the last couple of years, mainly due to our changes in behaviour due to COVID-19. However, the UK usually mimics what happens in Australia in their winter, and it has just experienced a really bad flu season which began earlier than usual. So please, do get your jabs to protect yourself, your loved ones, and our NHS.

With best wishes,
Maggie Throup MP
Member of Parliament for Erewash
