Nobody voted to trash nature, but the government looks set to do just that. That’s why we disrupted the Conservative Party conference last week.

 

They’ve promised to launch “the most ambitious environmental programme of any country on earth”. [1]

 

Instead, the moratorium on fracking has been lifted, and hundreds of laws protecting wild places and regulating water quality, pollution and the use of pesticides could be abolished.

 

John -- sewage in our rivers and oceans, the use of harmful pesticides, new fracking licences: we’ve seen what happens when the government drops the ball. Environmental protections are not burdens -- they’re there to ensure our future. Greenpeace is committed to protecting nature, but we need your help to do it. Can you contribute today?

Hi John,

 

We’ve just disrupted the Tory party conference. [2]

 

Prime Minister Truss' plans to revive fracking in the UK should ring alarm bells for our planet. 

 

Even the 2019 Conservative manifesto said fracking would not take place 'unless the science shows categorically that it can be done safely'. [3] 

 

But the science hasn't changed. Fracking still poses the same dangers and would be as disastrous for our planet as ever.

 

To make matters worse the founder of the UK's first fracking company, Chris Cornelius, has also said fracking 'is not going to have an impact’ on our energy supply. [4]

 

So who voted for this?

 

John -- we must protect nature and we can’t let the government push ahead with fracking. We’re going to keep confronting the government and calling them out on their disregard for our natural world. But, we need your help to keep going. Can you contribute a few pounds today?

The UK must reach 100% renewable power by 2030, by investing in wind and solar energy and putting a stop to renewed efforts to exploit fossil fuels.

 

With your support we'll continue to call out hypocrisy like Truss' U-turn on fracking or the licensing of new oil and gas fields which risk turning back the progress to net zero we have already made.

I felt energised watching our brave activists disrupt the Tory party conference this morning. It’s actions like these that mean the government can’t keep ignoring our key demands.
