Tulsi Gabbard Walks Away From Democrat Party Claiming They are an “elitist cabal of warmongers”

ABC: Former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard announced she is leaving the Democratic Party, denouncing it as an “elitist cabal of warmongers,” while calling upon other “common sense independent minded Democrats” to exit with her. Gabbard represented Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District from 2013 to 2021 as a Democrat, and in 2020 she mounted an unsuccessful bid for the party’s presidential nomination. In a video posted to Twitter on Tuesday, she claimed that the party she’s exiting stands for the “powerful elite,” not the people (ABC). Tulsi Gabbard: I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic Party that is now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue & stoke anti-white racism, actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms, are (Twitter). Ed Morrissey: Don’t hold back, @TulsiGabbard, tell us how you really feel. This may also be how a lot of disillusioned Dems feel right now, too (Twitter).

Revealed: FBI Offered Christopher Steele $1 Million Dollars to Corroborate Dossier Allegations

Fox News: The second trial out of Special Counsel John Durham’s years-long investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russia probe begins this week with Igor Danchenko, the Russian national who served as the primary sub-source for the anti-Trump dossier, in court fighting five counts of making false statements to the FBI. Danchenko pleaded not guilty last year to lying about the source of information that he provided to ex-British intelligence officer Christopher Steele for the dossier, which contained salacious and now-debunked allegations against former President Donald Trump (Fox News). Washington Examiner: The FBI offered British ex-spy Christopher Steele an “incentive” of up to $1 million if he could prove the allegations in his since-discredited anti-Trump dossier, but the former MI6 agent was unable to back up his claims, according to new court testimony. The bombshell revelation came during special counsel John Durham’s false statements trial against Steele’s main dossier source, Russian-born lawyer Igor Danchenko, who has been charged with repeatedly lying to the bureau about his sourcing for information he provided for the dossier in 2016. Danchenko has pleaded not guilty (Washington Examiner). Sean Langille: During questioning from Special Counsel John Durham, Brian Auten, a supervisory counter intelligence analyst with the FBI, revealed the FBI offered Christopher Steele one million dollars if he could corroborate allegations in the Dossier, but that Steele could not do so (Twitter).

J.D. Vance, Tim Ryan Debate in Tightly-Contested Race in Ohio

Hill: Ohio Senate candidates Rep. Tim Ryan (D) and J.D. Vance (R) squared off in a televised debate on Monday night that saw the two hit each other over their ties to everything from Washington and China to the leaders of their respective parties. Ryan notably used the forum to distance himself from the standard-bearers of his own party, calling for “generational change” in party leadership. “No, I’ve been very clear. I’d like to see a generational change,” Ryan said. “Mitch McConnell, Donald Trump, the president, everybody,” he continued. “We need a new generation of leadership.” Vance hit back at the comment, citing Ryan’s voting record in Congress.  “It’s so funny. We’re getting close to Halloween and Tim Ryan has put on a costume where he pretends to be a reasonable moderate,” Vance said. “The last two Congresses, Tim, you voted with Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden 100 percent. You consistently toe the party line” (Hill). Ed Morrissey: Did Tim Ryan plan to debate J.D. Vance last night in Ohio, or Donald Trump (Twitter)? Trending 911: J. D. Vance Eviscerates Tim Ryan during Ohio Senate debate. “You voted so many times against border wall funding…If you had done your job, she would have never been raped in the first place” (Twitter).

Stocks Dive as Investors Attempt to Navigate Bear Market

Wall Street Journal: The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite fell Tuesday in volatile trading, upended by Bank of England Gov. Andrew Bailey’s remark that the U.K. central bank’s plan to rescue pension funds hit by interest-rate increases will end as scheduled Friday. The Nasdaq Composite slipped into a bear market, its second of the year. The S&P 500 and the Dow are already in bear markets, defined in Wall Street parlance as a decline of 20% or more from a recent peak. Stocks had opened lower, with investors weighing how higher interest rates and soaring inflation will affect the upcoming earnings season. Stocks turned higher at midday, then reversed course in the final hour of trading after Mr. Bailey’s comments (Wall Street Journal). CNBC: Investors are awaiting a few key inflation reports out later in the week that will inform how aggressively the Federal Reserve will hike interest rates going forward to tame inflation. On Wednesday, the producer price report will be released. That’s followed by the September consumer price index Thursday. On Friday, September retail sales will give further insight into consumption. The path of the central bank’s interest rate increases will determine whether or not the U.S. economy falls into a recession or experiences a soft landing (CNBC).

Colorado Election Official Botches Registration, Sends Notices to 30,000 Noncitizens

Well… this is awkward. Washington Examiner: Colorado’s top election official says 30,000 voter registration notices were sent to noncitizens — accidentally. Democratic Secretary of State Jena Griswold’s office blamed the error on a glitch, saying the mix-up occurred when department employees compared a list of 102,000 names provided by the Electronic Registration Information Center with a database of Coloradans issued driver’s licenses, including noncitizens who were issued special licenses (Washington Examiner). US News: The news comes at a time of widespread skepticism — often unfounded — of voting integrity following the 2020 presidential election and as Griswold, who has touted her role as a national advocate for secure elections, seeks reelection in the November midterms (US News).

Service Members Warn: Woke Policies Undermine Military Readiness

Fox News: While President Biden’s Secretary of the Army has defended its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs this week as “important,” several current and former members of the U.S. military, who have put their lives on the line to ensure America’s security and defend its freedoms, are sounding the alarm over what they call a culture putting “wokeness” before training and combat effectiveness. Those service members, some of whom served with Special Operations Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, are blaming that culture for its recruiting challenges, which have risen to a level unseen since it was transitioned to an all-volunteer force…  The service members, who remained anonymous so they could speak freely, almost universally shared a similar sentiment, with many noting that senior members who speak out on the issue risk their careers or retirement pensions (Fox News).

Of the Top 10 Most Popular Governors in America, Nine are Republican

Daily Wire: Nine of the nation’s top ten most popular governors are Republicans, according to a new survey… Overall, Americans still reportedly approve of their governors. Only eight of the 50 state leaders fell below a 50% approval rating. A few surprises were also found among the rankings. Virginia Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who entered office under much controversy last year, stood at 55% approval in his first year in the rankings (Daily Wire). Morning Consult: America’s Most Popular Governors: Charlie Baker (R-MA): 74%, Phil Scott (R-VT): 73%, Larry Hogan (R-MD): 70%, Doug Burgum (R-ND): 66%, Mark Gordon (R-WY): 66% (Twitter).

G7 Leaders: Russian Missile Attacks Could Be Considered War Crimes

Fox News: Leaders from the G7 on Tuesday condemned the dozens of Russian missile strikes that rained down on Ukraine this week and said the attacks amounted to “war crimes.” Russia on Monday levied some 84 missiles and drone strikes across Ukraine, hitting civilian populations nationwide, including in downtown Kyiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy joined the G7 nations in a Tuesday meeting in which Zelenskyy proposed a “peace formula” to help staunch Russia’s brutal attacks. Zelenskyy has repeatedly asked nations like the U.S. to provide better air defense systems and on Tuesday called on all seven nations to assist Kyiv in finding funding for an “air shield” (Fox News). Associated Press: The leaders of the Group of Seven industrial powers condemned the bombardment and said they would “stand firmly with Ukraine for as long as it takes.” Their pledge defied Russian warnings that Western assistance would prolong the war and the pain of Ukraine’s people (Associated Press).

John Fetterman Still Has a Hard Time Communicating and Tracking Conversations

NBC: John Fetterman, the Democratic nominee in a crucial Pennsylvania Senate race, still struggles to understand what he hears and to speak clearly following a stroke in May. In an exclusive broadcast interview with NBC News taped Friday at his home, Fetterman said both that his recovery “changes everything” and that it would not affect his ability to serve in the Senate if voters choose him over Republican Mehmet Oz. “I don’t think it’s going to have an impact,” said Fetterman, who resumed his duties as Pennsylvania’s lieutenant governor in May but did not begin appearing at public campaign events until mid-August (NBC). Townhall: MSNBC: John Fetterman “has a hard time understanding what he’s hearing…he still has some problems, some challenges with speech…he had a hard time understanding our conversations” (Twitter).

In the face of Rise of the None’s, Evangelical Leader Points Readers to Sermon on the Mount

Pathway to Victory: Drawing from decades of study, Dr. Robert Jeffress breaks down Jesus’s most well-known (yet least-followed) teachings about happiness, faith, relationships, sex, reconciliation, prayer, money, and more. He shows how we often misunderstand and misapply these verses and unpacks exactly what Jesus was teaching us about our own hearts and minds (Pathway to Victory). Dr. Jeffress: If Jesus came back today to give an 18-minute TED Talk, what do you think he would say? Do you think he might mention the nation’s current financial struggles and worries about things like inflation? Would he address hot-button topics such as the current political state of our country and who we, as his disciples, are voting for? Is it possible Jesus would address our feelings toward these topics and how it impacts our relationship with him? Well, he already has in his Sermon on the Mount (Fox News).
