Dear Anonymous,

Off the coast of Hawaii, there are now nursery waters where there's more plastic than fish.1

Unfortunately, Hawaii is just the latest place found drowning in plastic. From 20,000 feet deep in the Mariana Trench to 11,000 feet high in the Pyrenees Mountains, rain and wind have spread our plastic waste all over the planet.2,3

Our plastic waste crisis isn't just unsightly; it's unsustainable, and it's a threat to our health.

That's why U.S. PIRG and our national network are working to make 2020 the year we stop plastic waste from threatening our health and polluting our future.

We've set a goal of raising $100,000 by midnight on Dec. 31 to ensure that we have the resources to win in the year ahead. Will you donate?

Thanks to supporters like you, Anonymous, we've made important progress in moving our country beyond plastic. In 2019 alone, our national network was instrumental in passing bans on plastic bags in Connecticut, Maine and Oregon.

We've also led the charge to ban polystyrene foam, which is made from fossil fuels and can't be recycled. Our network played an important role in convincing Maine and Maryland to become the first two states to ban polystyrene foam takeout containers.

Addressing the plastic pollution crisis requires tough-minded advocacy, spirited grassroots action and independent research. That's where you come in. Your support gives us the resources we need to stand up for the public interest -- whether it's tackling plastic waste, working to ban dangerous pesticides like Roundup, or standing up for consumers and public health.

Donate today to help us build on this progress in the upcoming year.

Curbing plastic waste becomes even more important as emerging studies show that plastic pollution is a threat to public health. Chemical components of plastic have been found to disrupt endocrine systems, interfere with brain development, and cause cancer and birth defects.4

The solution to preventing further pollution and protecting public health is clear: We must move beyond plastic.

In the upcoming year, we'll continue working to do just that. As we plan for this work and more, we need to know we have the support and resources to win.

Help us start 2020 strong with a donation today.

Thank you,

Faye Park
