Hi John, I’m Susan Thronson -- PFLAG National’s new Board President-- and the first parent of a transgender child to serve in this role. I'm proud to celebrate National Coming Out Day with all of you -- and with PFLAG. I turned to my local chapter when my teen-aged child came out seeking support for a gender-identity transition. There I found a community of transgender advocates and parents who shared their families’ experiences and changed my life. PFLAG moved me from a passive ally to a supportive parent to an activist for creating a caring, just and affirming world for all. It’s been my honor to volunteer with my local PFLAG chapter and serve on the PFLAG National Board for over a decade; I’m truly humbled to now serve as Board President. As a PFLAG mom and chapter volunteer, I’ve seen firsthand how PFLAG saves LGBTQ+ lives and helps heal families when a loved one comes out. As an experienced business leader, I’ve seen how PFLAG National impacts workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at some of the largest companies in the world, transforming not only policies but also the lived daily experiences of LGBTQ+ employees. This is the power of PFLAG -- and that power is fueled by YOU. Right now, I hope you’ll continue to fuel these efforts with a donation -- matched dollar-for-dollar* by our friends at Chevrolet all throughout LGBTQ+ History Month. Coming out can be scary -- especially when this has been one of the worst years of state legislative attacks on our LGBTQ+ loved ones in history. But I know that when it comes to our kids, PFLAGers never back down from a fight. PFLAG National will soon celebrate 50 years of leading with love for every LGBTQ+ person, whether they are out to their families, their friends, their colleagues -- or just themselves. But we still have a long way to go until our mission of creating a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them is achieved. I need to know you’re with us. Amplify the power of your generosity with a gift to PFLAG National today and help ensure that every LGBTQ+ person is safe, celebrated, empowered, and loved. |
