Happy National Coming Out Day! Please make a point of showing solidarity with LGBTQ + folks today and always. Trans youth across our state and region especially need our love and support at this time.

The national progressive movement is coming together to push back against the actions Republican governors and legislators are taking to strip away the dignity and rights of queer people, students, Black and Brown people, women, immigrants and workers. Because of the level of hate, cruelty, and lies we’re seeing from these GOP officials, we know why Governor’s races in places like Texas,Georgia, and Florida are grabbing everyone’s attention. And why Marylanders are also paying attention to key U.S. Senate and House races in battleground states, since they could determine control of the next Congress.

But did you know that Maryland’s general election offers us a chance to score major breakthrough progressive victories here at home? That we have the opportunity to reject extremist Republican candidates who are on the ballot in our state? That’s why, with just four weeks to go, we’re zeroing in on Maryland races: local and state election contests that give us a real chance to influence what Maryland will do and be in the next few years. Please join us on the home front:

Help us elect an openly gay progressive candidate to a seat in Congress! Heather Mizeur, a former State Delegate, is running a broad based, exciting campaign to unseat the right wing hardliner Rep. Andy Harris in Maryland CD1. Help us keep building the momentum for this game changing grassroots campaign.

Or join us to help defeat one of the worst Sheriff’s in the country, Chuck Jenkins in Frederick County, who has invited extremist groups like the Oath Keepers to Frederick. The race there is tightening and we’ve got an amazing team of leaders campaigning to elect Democrat Karl Bickel. Karl stands for a safe and socially just Frederick County, promising to implement policing practices that partner with community members and groups.

In 2022, we can elect Maryland’s first African American Governor, Wes Moore! In the process we can reject the politics of Dan Cox, the right wing extremist, and Donald Trump who is supporting him.

Healthcare For All:

Progressive Maryland’s Make Medicines Affordable campaign joined with other national groups for a great action on October 6. We told and delivered stories to the Department of Health and Human Services at their D.C. HQ. Watch th event here and read about the action filled day. We’re calling on Sec. Becerra to meet with us and to take Executive Action to lower Rx prices.

Progressive Maryland's Justice Task Force, Returning Citizens Task Force and Drug Task Force:

Zoning Campaign Update: We’ve had one victory, now we need to score another. Council Bill 92 is still being considered and is expected to be voted on this month. CB 92 would strip away opportunities for the community to weigh in on a development project that’s unwanted, a process that’s been in place and available to residents for years.
