keeping you up to date on all things Northeast Wisconsin The September NEWsflash Friend, Welcome back to the September edition of The NEWsflash, a collection of stories and happenings from Northeast Wisconsin over the past month. As we welcomed in a change of season in September, we also welcomed new building projects, anniversaries, and opportunities in our community. I've included some photos and highlights from a few of the events my team and I were able to attend. You can also find information on how my office can help you with any federal problem you may have. Semper Fi, Continuing a Legacy of Shipbuilding: On September 9, Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay broke ground on their new Machine Shop, Building 110. My staff celebrated yet another impressive expansion to the shipyard and to the shipbuilding industry in Northeast Wisconsin. Caring for our Ports: My staff also attended the Annual Meeting of the Wisconsin Commercial Ports Association in Marinette. Association members shared updates about their ports and discussed policies at the state and federal level. Attendees heard from speakers representing the WI Department of Transportation, WI Department of Administration, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Maritime Administration, U.S. Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, American Great Lakes Ports Association, Fincantieri, and Foth. Saluting our Veterans: On September 17, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 224, with participation from Rolling Thunder, held the annual POW-MIA ceremony at the Brown County Courthouse. The event commemorated those held captive or missing in action while serving in our nation. Celebrating New Beginnings: Vermeer Wisconsin celebrated the grand opening of its new location off of Highway 47 in Appleton with a ribbon-cutting and tour of its expanded facility. Vermeer is a family-owned business that has provided equipment, service, and support for high-quality agricultural, underground construction, surface mining, tree care and environmental equipment since 1961. Reimagining Possibilities for Students: My staff also attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the redesigned Engineering Technologies Atrium and College of Business entrance at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC). The newly reimagined space provides workspaces for students with amenities like virtual reality and manufacturing labs. Honoring Oneida's History: September 23 marked the 200th anniversary of an 1822 treaty signed between the Menominee, Ho-Chunk, Stockbridge Munsee band of Mohicans, and Oneida. A member of my staff attended the anniversary celebration that took place at Heritage Hill in Green Bay. Energizing Wisconsin: The Safest Way Tour, hosted by Plumbers and Steamfitters UA400 in Kaukauna, highlighted the importance of the Wisconsin energy infrastructure network and provided an opportunity to see an impressive 34-foot piece of pipeline similar to the one that will be used in the Line 5 relocation project. Signing onto Success: My staff also attended the UA 400 Apprentice Signing for 80 first-year apprentices embarking on the next important step in their careers. Congratulations to these apprentices on beginning their journey into a skilled trade! Honoring our Heroes: On September 30th, my staff attended a meeting to learn more about the "Flight of Champions" Stars and Stripe Honor Flight. The Packers, Bucks, and Brewers will sponsor 3 plane loads of veterans on a day trip to Washington, D.C. to see the memorials built in their honor.
