Hello John,
For more than 20 years, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute of Health (NIH) have been left with a void in their research funding -- funding for gun violence research.
As gun deaths have climbed -- with more than 100 Americans dying each day from gun violence -- federal researchers have been limited in their efforts to research this epidemic and develop solutions to reduce our nation's gun fatalities and injuries. Our lawmakers have held gun violence researchers hostage by refusing to appropriate funds for gun violence research. That is about to change.
Last week, the House and Senate reached an agreement to end this research freeze and allocate $25 million to support "firearm injury and mortality prevention research" divided evenly between CDC and NIH!
At the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV), we know that this vital funding for public health research can help us address our gun violence epidemic. Our team uses data and research to craft life-saving solutions, and we will use this newly-funded data to develop and advocate for evidence-based solutions that will reduce gun injury and death in all its forms.
We are able to continue this important work because of YOUR support!
