John,
Republicans are vowing revenge for the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act if they grab back control of Congress in November.
Their retaliatory weapon is a plan to gut next year’s Farm Bill. And, while it sounds counter-intuitive, the Republican rage is blinding them to the urgent needs and concerns of America’s farmers and the agriculture sector.
Why?
House Republicans are frightened Democrats will pass a Farm Bill that includes significant funding to help farmers tackle climate change, equipping them with the resources to be resilient to the climate crisis.
Republicans are climate change deniers. They refuse to accept reality and science. That’s why the House GOP vows to strip the Farm Bill of climate “buzzwords.”
The outcome of the midterm elections will determine the fate of this massive piece of legislation that is supposed to support America’s farmers through the challenges they will face in the years ahead. And while the GOP might have their fingers in their ears, we all know that means climate change.
Thankfully, SEEC members are stepping up. Their Climate and Agriculture Task Force focuses on ensuring the next Farm Bill meets the commitment to providing America’s farmers with the resources they need to tackle the climate crisis.
But here’s the deal, John.
Rep. Kim Schrier (WA-08) leads the SEEC task force — but she is also one of the most at-risk SEEC members in this election cycle.
John, this is our next major battle to pass transformational climate policy this year. However, not enough people are paying attention — and Congressional Republicans want to keep it that way. Please rush a contribution so SEEC members like Rep. Schrier can keep fighting for farmers and climate action. [[link removed]]
