Portland Press Herald: Abortion rights are on the ballot

John,

During last week’s debate, Paul LePage tried to downplay the likelihood that he and his Maine GOP allies would restrict Maine women’s abortion rights.

According to LePage, when he was governor, “never once did I attempt to even talk about abortion.”

This is a blatant lie. Sunday’s Portland Press Herald editorial lays out his record as clear as day:

“While in office, LePage was loudly anti-abortion. He attended and spoke at numerous anti-abortion rallies. In 2016, he said, ‘We should not have abortion.’ In 2018, when asked about overturning Roe v. Wade, he said, ‘Let’s do it.’ Just this year, in a survey from the anti-abortion Christian Civic League of Maine, he answered ‘yes’ when asked if abortion access should be restricted.”

Will you make a contribution now to keep LePage and the anti-choice GOP out of power?

LePage made national headlines at the debate with the New York Times reporting he “repeatedly stumbled over a question about how he would handle [abortion legislation] if voters returned him to office.” Make no mistake, abortion rights are at risk if Paul LePage is elected.
