John,

All across America reproductive rights are under attack. And Michigan is no different.

Earlier this year, Republicans tried to force legislation that would have banned a procedure known as dilation and evacuation. It’s a safe, standard medical procedure that is backed by science and only used in the rarest of circumstances.

Luckily, Gov. Whitmer vetoed the legislation.

In support of women and families, my colleagues and I introduced the Reproductive Health Act (RHA).

The RHA is the most ambitious plan in Michigan’s history to protect reproductive rights and make sure every woman is able to make the healthcare choices that are right for her.

I know I’ve said this before, but this is why it is so important to elect a Democratic majority in the House next year. It’s the only way to pass the RHA and protect a woman’s right to choose what is best for them.

But just a few days ago, Michigan’s Right to Life announced that they turned in their petition with enough signatures to bypass Whitmer and ban dilation and evacuation. They even got a powerful boost from Republican Speaker Lee Chatfield who said that it will be passed, and “It’s the right thing to do.”

The “right thing to do”? How is putting partisanship and ideology above women’s lives and well-being, “the right thing to do?”

Such intimate decisions should only be between a woman and her medical professional, not ideologues and politicians.

We need to have elected leaders who are ready to pass the RHA and stop this assault on women’s rights. I’m ready to support them and get them to Lansing, where we can put an end to this.

Will you help support candidates who are ready to fight for reproductive rights by donating $10 or $20?

Best,

Donna
