John,
Today, on the anniversary of the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, we celebrate National Coming Out Day.
For decades members of the LGBTQ+ community — including countless Black and Brown leaders — have been marching and fighting for equality and against discrimination.
To all who may be coming out, to all who are still discovering and understanding their identity, and to all members of the community — I stand with you. I will continue to fight for your equal protection under the law.
Many states still have little to no protections against discrimination for people who identify as LGBTQ+. We cannot wait for these states to act on their own accord. It’s past time for the federal government to pass anti-discrimination legislation.
I have been a longtime supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and proudly voted for the Equality Act. If passed, this act would prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in employment, housing, public accommodations, education, federally funded programs, credit, and jury service.
Will you stand with me?
🌈Sign your name next to mine — tell Congress to act NOW on the Equality Act.
