Dear John,
Bipartisan support for Israel is under attack.
Despite their differences, the Democratic and Republican parties have traditionally worked together to support the U.S.-Israel relationship. But this bipartisan consensus is increasingly being threatened by those with extreme views on both sides of the aisle.
It’s up to us to fight back, and AJC is doing just that. Will you join us by making a gift today?
The donor who is matching any year-end gift to AJC has just increased his commitment to $700,000, but only if we receive it by December 31. |
I’d like to share one recent example of how the U.S.-Israel alliance is being undermined and how AJC responded.
In the lead-up to the 2019 California Democratic Convention, anti-Israel groups plotted to introduce amendments to the state party platform. These motions pressed for a halt of military aid to Israel; expressed support for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement; and called for Israel’s elimination as a Jewish state by overwhelming it with the descendants of Palestinian refugees.
If any of these motions were to be adopted, we would no doubt see similar pushes in other states or even for the 2020 national party platform.
Luckily, AJC was there to spring into action—but only because of support from people like you. |
Working with community partners, we led a solidarity rally on the convention steps, engaged delegates, and distributed AJC’s survey on antisemitism in America. Our point was clear: these amendments would harm a vital U.S. ally and be a slap in the face to American Jews.
Ultimately, AJC’s advocacy was instrumental in the amendments’ resounding defeat, with two thirds of the 2,500 delegates voting them down. Instead, the convention adopted language endorsing a two-state solution and Israel’s future as a Jewish and democratic state.
This is just one win in an ongoing battle. We must be ready to respond, whether the threat comes from the right or the left.
Every day, AJC fights for Israel’s security and legitimacy by making the case to leaders from across the ideological spectrum and by bringing prominent figures to experience the Jewish state for themselves.
We can’t lead this campaign without you. For Israel to stay strong, we need to make sure both parties understand that the alliance is too important to politicize.
Will you stand by AJC as we stand up for Israel? Make a year-end gift today—a gift that will be doubled! |
With appreciation,
Julie Rayman
