This is a bit concerning, John.

Just as ballots are arriving in mailboxes, Inside Elections is now saying our chances of keeping CA-49 blue have taken a hit.

Technically speaking, Mike was “outraised” by his self-funding opponent last quarter. That’s only because our opponent dumped millions of his own dollars into his campaign coffers. And remember, that’s in addition to the millions already being funneled into our district from dark-money super PACs.

We are facing a resource disadvantage, and that led Inside Elections to change their rating.

Here’s the truth:

We’ll take a campaign funded by grassroots donors any day, because we believe it translates into actual support on the ground. But we’re also not naive. If we want to re-elect Mike, we can’t risk being outspent, especially not in these final weeks as voters make their decisions.
