Coming out as trans was a life-saving experience for me. Being able to be my true, authentic self is a game changer. Unfortunately, not every LGBTQ person is as fortunate. In more than 80 countries—from Afghanistan to Russia to Zambia—coming out means risking vicious persecution and even death. 

As attacks continue against LGBTQ people in the United States and around the world, I am reminded of the importance of commemorating Coming Out Day.
