The Humane League

Moments ago, our legal team stepped out of the halls of the US Supreme Court.

And I assure you, the legal team representing THL and our allied organizations mounted a valiant defense of California’s Proposition 12… and the pig industry’s legal team fought hard to strike it down.

As you know, Prop 12 is considered by many to be the strongest animal welfare law in the world. It prohibits the sale of products within California that are the result of extreme confinement of egg-laying hens, mother pigs, and baby calves.

But if the pig industry gets its way, more animals will be doomed to live out their lives in painfully small metal cages, unable to even turn around.

All our efforts to defend Prop 12 have been building to this moment. Now the fate of animals rests in the hands of the US Supreme Court. Their ruling is expected in spring 2023.

But we don’t have to wait until the Supreme Court ruling to continue pushing cages to the brink of history.

Your actions and donations are fueling campaigns that are driving serious progress for animals—the very thing the industry is threatened by. We’ll keep fighting for chickens to have the freedom to spread their wings, for baby calves to stretch their limbs, and for mother pigs to have space to walk around and snuggle with their own babies—all things they will never experience in a life of extreme confinement.

The road ahead is long and the outcome of this Supreme Court ruling is uncertain. But one thing you can count on is that we’ll continue to defend animals and their welfare at every turn. With you by our side, we won’t relent until animals are free from cages—and free from abuse.

Together, we will win this fight. Thank you for being part of our movement.

For the animals,
