Hello,

In a Nation where millions of Americans can still be fired for being gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or queer, coming out still represents a substantial risk.

After years of progress, LGBTQ+ people are once again facing disgusting attacks in their communities and on the airwaves from elected officials, right-wing pundits, and even their own neighbors.

Today, on National Coming Out Day, someone you care about may show you their authentic self for the first time. In that moment, they'll be filled with a range of emotions -- from joy to fear -- and they'll be counting on you for love and acceptance. But it's not enough only to hold close the LGBTQ+ people in our own lives.

Last year, the House passed the Equality Act to prevent discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation. Now we need to build momentum to ensure the Senate does the same — before a new Supreme Court further erodes the freedoms of LGBTQ+ Americans.

It's time for Congress to end discrimination against LGBTQ+ Americans. Show you're standing with me by adding your name.

Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito have already made it clear they wish to reverse the Obergefell decision, which made marriage equality the law of the land.

It's essential that we pass a federal law that explicitly bans discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity immediately. That's why I co-sponsored the Equality Act and why I'm asking for your help to build support to defend civil rights before the court has the chance to strike them down.

By showing your support for the Equality Act, you can help provide the momentum to ensure that LGBTQ+ Americans no longer face the threat of being fired for coming out and living as they are.

Add your name now and say: "It's time to end discrimination against LGBTQ+ Americans."
