I know your inbox has been overflowing with requests from the leaders of various charitable causes seeking donations.
John,
As my colleague Ross Kecseg likes to say, “We get the government we tolerate.”
By the looks of things, we’ve been tolerating way too much. Don’t think so? Texans suffer under one of the highest property tax burdens in the nation. Property taxes are all levied locally – primarily by school boards – and yet 90 percent or more of Texas voters don’t vote in those elections.
But here’s the rub: we still pay for the government we ignore.
The Republican-dominated legislature all but ignored Texas’ conservatives in the 2019 session. Whether you care most about reforming tax policy or protecting the unborn, confronting heavy regulations on small business or protecting parental rights, the 2019 legislative session achieved little of significance. It’s why the Democrats were so excited, and the conservative base so disappointed, when the session came to an end.
As the 2020 election gears up, expect lawmakers to come around and once again sing their own praises and make promises for future action.
Yes, we can continue to tolerate their inactivity. We can ignore their failures and the facts of the session.
Or, we can build an army of Texans who are willing to speak up and take action.
We know pandering to the left isn’t the solution for Texas. If we are to get the bold results Texans want (and keep being promised), we must be louder and more persistent.
At Empower Texans, our mission is to help citizens be meaningfully and effectively engaged in their government. So citizens can overcome the entrenched establishment, we must grow the conservative base of activists. To do that, we need your help.
For us to hit the ground running in 2020, please make a special donation today [[link removed]] of $25, $50, or $100.
