You’ve seen my name on a few emails, so I figured it was time for a proper introduction! I’m Chloe Owens, the Senior Digital Strategist here at Stand Up America.

A few years ago, I volunteered on the Cori Bush campaign during her second run for Missouri’s first congressional district. I had just moved, and it was the first time I felt connected to a candidate who was running to represent me.

One shift, I canvassed with Cori—just me and her. I read out the last address on our list, looked up, and saw a yard filled with Trump signs and flags. I’m thinking, “Um, maybe we should just skip this one?” But Cori looked at me and said without hesitation, “Let’s do this.”

As we all talked, Cori listened to their concerns and explained how she would address those if she won, not changing a thing about who she was or why she was running. We walked away with that voter saying they were rooting for Cori. When Cori won that year, I played this moment back in my mind.
