On Wednesday night, a federal judge ruled against DACA — upholding last year’s decision to block new applications from being accepted, and sending the case back to anti-immigrant Judge Hanen’s court.
The courts have made it clear: They will not uphold the protections that have allowed hundreds of thousands of immigrant youth to obtain legal status and work permits in the only country they call home.
That’s why we’re taking our fight to the Democratic-controlled Congress, where they can deliver permanent protections for us and all undocumented people.
As I’m writing this, our team is planning advocacy efforts to demand that Democrats in Congress deliver permanent protections before the end of the year when a new Congress is sworn in.

DACA was always a band-aid solution. While the end of the program would put hundreds of thousands of livelihoods at risk, the truth is DACA hasn’t been and will never be enough on its own.
We deserve more. We need permanent protections now.
It’s been reported that the Biden administration may respond with executive action to protect DACA recipients. That’s a step in the right direction, but even that would still ultimately leave people vulnerable and unprotected.
An expansive, inclusive pathway to citizenship is the one thing that can protect us, which is why we’re taking our fight to Congress to demand they deliver it before the end of the year.
The fight ahead won’t be easy, and we are counting on support from grassroots allies like you, team, to fuel our advocacy efforts in Washington.
