Dear fellow MoveOn member,
Robert Reich here. Usually, when I send you an email, it's about the latest outrage of the Trump administration or the corrupt right-wing policies that my friends at MoveOn are fighting against. But this email is a little different.
Today, I want to share with you the personal mission I have been on for the last five years—and to ask for your help to keep it going.
Back in 2009, I started making short videos about the increasing economic inequality plaguing our nation, and I began to understand the power of fact-based storytelling that doesn’t just rely on dry data and confusing jargon.
I saw how hungry folks were for this information. Our country was fast approaching record levels of wealth inequality, but mainstream news outlets were not talking about how our laws and policies were responsible for corporations and the ultra-wealthy getting richer and richer—and at our expense.
Then, in 2014, to expand that work, I launched Inequality Media, a nonprofit media company. Our goal is to get the critical information about growing inequality out to the American people in order to mobilize them to make change.
Over the years, our organization has grown to have millions of social media followers, and we are now releasing videos every few days—you may have seen some of the videos we've made with MoveOn!
And now, we're gearing up to put out videos every single day! Short, snappy, but still fully-researched clips that will directly debunk whatever lies Republicans and the right-wing propaganda machine have been spreading that day. And we're launching a YouTube talk show to take on the platform's right-wing radicalization.
In order to make high-quality, compelling videos every day that will get out crucial information to millions of viewers, we need support from dedicated progressive activists like you, John. Your donation to Inequality Media is tax-deductible, and anything you give right now will be matched dollar for dollar, making your donation go twice as far in supporting our effort to combat disinformation and move our country forward in 2020 and beyond.
Donald Trump is an existential threat to the future of our country, but he is a symptom of our broken system in which out-of-control corporations and extravagantly wealthy individuals have spent the last few decades doing everything they can to shovel more money into their pockets and block any policies that could help ease the burden on the rest of us.
And those are the stories that we shine a light on at Inequality Media.
We dug deep into the racist policies that created the racial wealth gap in America.
We shared the dirty details of how Citizens United has corrupted our country's elections.
We dove into why billionaires and corporations are spending so much money to try and stop progressive policies like Medicare for All or raising the minimum wage.
And much, much more.
I believe that by creating this media organization and sharing this information, we are putting the power back into the hands of people like you, who will translate knowledge into action and advance the progressive vision our country needs as we head into 2020 and beyond. Donations are tax-deductible, and if you chip in by New Year's Day, your donation will be matched dollar for dollar by generous supporters dedicated to our mission.
Thanks for all you do.
