This November, the highest courts in Michigan, North Carolina, and Ohio are up for grabs, and either Democrats or Republicans could come out on top. In fact, in all three courts, just one seat could change which side winds up in control. Chip in $7—$1 for each candidate—to ensure fair courts that will uphold democracy and protect our rights.

State supreme court justices rule on major issues like abortion, gerrymandering, voting rights, and environment protections. When independent-minded justices committed to upholding the rule of law sit on those courts, we can expect fair decisions. When far-right ideologues are in charge, however, all bets are off.

Just take a look at why Republicans are targeting Michigan, North Carolina, and Ohio courts:

In Ohio, a relatively moderate Republican justice has repeatedly sided with Democrats to rule against GOP gerrymanders. Her retirement is an opportunity for them to elect an ultra-conservative.

Democrats hold narrow 4-3 majorities in Michigan and North Carolina. Republicans are looking to flip both courts in order to rollback landmark decisions, like when the Michigan Supreme Court found that existing state law prohibits companies from firing workers or discriminating against customers due to their sexual orientation.

North Carolina's top court struck down GOP gerrymanders for violating the state constitution and implemented much fairer maps. Not only do Republicans want the ability to rig districts in their favor, they're also looking towards the presidential election, where these state supreme courts in particular will be crucial xxxxxxs in defending our democracy.

When the GOP can't win an election, they change how the votes are counted. When they can't change the law, they change who interprets the law. They've done this time and again with the judiciary. This year, we're well positioned to stop them in their tracks.
