This week, NAFCU will continue to fight for industry priorities, most notably through continued opposition of the House and Senate versions of the Credit Card Competition Act (CCCA). Senators Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and Roger Marshall, R-Kansas, are currently trying to attach the legislation to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The Senate is scheduled to have pro forma (non-voting) sessions this week where debate on the NDAA may begin. NAFCU has been fighting against efforts by Senators Durbin and Marshall to attach interchange amendments to the NDAA. NAFCU urges credit unions to use NAFCU’s Grassroots Action Center to speak out against the CCCA by sending a message to their lawmakers requesting them to oppose the harmful legislation.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics issued the September Jobs Report on Friday, which revealed that the unemployment rate fell from 3.7 percent in 3.5 percent. NAFCU Chief Economist and Vice President of Research Curt Long analyzed the report in a new NAFCU Macro Data Flash report.
