JOhn, I was incredibly pleased last week by President Biden's announcement that he'll pardon anyone who was federally convicted of marijuana possession. I'm hopeful that this will put us on the path to decriminalization at the federal level.
Criminalizing marijuana perpetuates racial inequities in our justice system (Black Americans are nearly four times more likely than white Americans to be arrested for marijuana possession), and it takes up valuable time and resources that should be used for tackling the violent crimes that actually pose a threat to our communities. I was proud when Virginia legalized marijuana last year, and I'll continue to advocate to make this change happen at the federal level.
But my opponent sees it differently. In our most recent debate, he said that he supports the unequal and unsustainable status quo that keeps marijuana possession as a federal crime.
Northern Virginians deserve a representative who's serious about making our criminal justice system more efficient. They deserve a leader who's willing to take on the gun lobby to address violent crime. My opponent doesn't offer any of that, and we need to drive home that contrast before Election Day.
So JOhn, will you donate $10 today? Everything we raise right now will help us keep our ads on the air and reach undecided voters.
