Friend, today is World Mental Health Day. This is another opportunity for us to reflect on how we can destigmatize mental health and advocate for access to mental health care for all LGBTQ young people. It’s also a key time to check in with ourselves and make sure we have the skills to care for ourselves and our communities.

Friend, today is also Indigenous Peoples Day. Our 2022 National Survey ([link removed]) showed LGBTQ youth who are people of color feel the impact of the lack of access to mental health care disproportionately to their white peers. Specifically, Indigenous LGBTQ youth reported that they considered suicide (55%), or attempted suicide (21%), at higher rates than all of their peers. Understanding the unique challenges of individuals who are LGBTQ and people of color helps our staff better provide an empathetic ear.
