Friend,
This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we celebrate the immense cultural and
historical contributions of indigenous communities to our national
character. It’s a day to recommit ourselves to protecting the rights of
indigenous peoples, including accessible healthcare.
Indigenous peoples had one of the worst life expectancies throughout the
COVID-19 pandemic. A big part of the problem is that economic hardships
have left [ [link removed] ]one in three Native Americans uninsured and facing
significant financial stress from medical care. Indian Health Services
(IHS), part of the Department of Health and Human Services, is severely
underfunded. Consequently, access to nearby medical care for rural
indigenous communities is sparse or nonexistent.
This kind of health inequity is unacceptable. And the solution is staring
us in the face: Medicare for All.
By [ [link removed] ]shoring up resources for Indian Health Services and providing
indigenous peoples with a quality, free healthcare option, Medicare for
All would help to expand healthcare access and close the gap.
[ [link removed] ]Sign if you agree: It’s time to pass Medicare for All.
In solidarity,
Ro
