Janet Garrett and Linda Iroff here. We’re both members of the Swartz campaign, and we want to talk to you about what’s at stake on November 8th.
It’s no secret that women’s rights are under attack, and have been for a while now. In the past few months, women have taken hit after hit with the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. Since then, we’ve witnessed states pass extreme abortion restrictions, making it nearly impossible to access safe reproductive care.
Here in Ohio, the State Legislature passed the six-week Heartbeat bill, making it a felony for doctors to perform an abortion for women after six weeks of pregnancy when doctors can allegedly detect a fetal heartbeat.
However, it’s a well-known fact that at six weeks, you can’t always detect a fetal heartbeat. Most women don’t even know they’re pregnant at just six weeks, whether the pregnancy is planned or unplanned.
As proud mothers, we’ve experienced several pregnancies. They were planned, yet we were still overcome by a wide range of emotions, such as fear, excitement, worry, exhaustion, and a big sense of not knowing what was around the corner.
AND, pregnancies impact every aspect of a woman’s life: physically, emotionally, financially, socially, and mentally - and, that’s with planned pregnancies!
We must provide women with safe, accessible, and affordable options to choose the best path for themselves. Politicians have no business using scare tactics and baseless claims to dictate what millions of women do with their bodies.
That’s why we are proud to support Craig. He knows that women are more than capable of making decisions for themselves. Craig is will be our pro-choice champion in Congress, unlike Bob Latta, who’s voted regularly to undermine a woman’s right to choose.
