Your support is urgent, and it’s necessary if I’m going to win my critical battleground race, so I do hope you’ll chip in $3. But I also think that you deserve to know a bit more about how I see the stakes of this election, so even though this email is a little longer than the ones I usually send, I hope you’ll take a moment to read it, John.

My father was a WWII veteran who survived the Battle of the Bulge; he knew what the decay of democracy looked like because he saw it up close – and he fought it, in service to his country.

His example has always inspired me. It is no small part of why I have pursued a life in public service.

He took freedom very seriously, and he made sure that my siblings and I did too. Throughout my childhood, he would peer over his newspaper at the breakfast table and ask me and my siblings “what are you doing for freedom today?”

That question is one I still think about to this day. Because freedom is not a given. It is an ongoing and – as his question reflects – daily fight.

It’s a fight that I am taking up here in New Hampshire, as I work to protect this Senate seat. And I hope it is a fight that you will join me in today because the outcome of this race – for a seat I won by the slimmest margin of any sitting Senator – will echo across the country.

I wish it were hyperbole to say that our fundamental freedoms are at stake in this race, but it’s not. And that is in large part because Republicans have selected Don Bolduc – the most extreme right-wing Senate nominee that New Hampshire has seen in living memory – to face me in November.

Don Bolduc’s anti-choice record makes it clear he would tear away a woman’s right to be a full and equal citizen, and his peddling of the Big Lie continues to damage the very foundations of our democracy.

We must defeat him and the dangerous right-wing extremism he represents. And you are an integral part of that effort, John.

Giving [nd: $3 for the first time today// d: another generous gift of $3 helps us run the kind of campaign that can defeat extremism – and the kind of campaign that represents the values of every single person who supports it, no matter what that support looks like.

The extremism that Don Bolduc represents alarms me, John But I am hopeful because of people like you who have taken it upon themselves to get involved and stand with candidates they believe in.

When grassroots donors like you step up, it’s a powerful reminder that caring about freedom cannot be a passive act.

Thank you for listening to my message and for taking action.

With every good wish,
Maggie Hassan
